Scoil Mhuire is a secondary school located within an historic area of Cork City. The school functions within a series of linked individual buildings, and the point of connection between disparate building elements was of principle interest when engaging in renovation works. This project involves sensitive alterations to the existing interior layout, with careful intervention where appropriate to improve overall circulation and function within the school. This project incorporates the adjacent building, which is a former orthodontist’s office, into the main school building as a prayer room and includes alterations to an existing external third floor walkway to convert it to an internal corridor.
