The site is a sloping green field facing west, with views of Durrus Village and the Atlantic. The brief was for a five bedroomed house with conservatory, office, utility and store. The requirements of two people with a growing family, working at home, determined the brief. Factors that influenced the form included the volumetric breakdown of the farmhouses and outbuildings typical of the area and reinforcing the two sides of the site, one facing a hill in shadow, and other the sea. Bedrooms are economically sized to concentrate space in the living areas. The kitchen and dining area are arranged to allow diners and cooks to communicate easily.
