The space available for an office extension was limited and triangular in shape. It was therefore decided to almost fill the site with a building of one storey. The walls of the extension are kept a metre away from the neighbours boundary to allow the introduction of a glazed area to the new studio. The height of the new is dictated by the eaves of the existing building.
The new studio is a lightweight building with an exposed galvanised steel structure. The design attempts to preserve the identity of the schoolhouse by touching the existing building only at roof level and at both ends. The ends of the new extension have been designed to allow the gables of the existing schoolhouse to dominate. |
